Video Introduction to Keyword Research using Market Samurai

Keyword research should be an absolutely essential part of creating any web page.

Simply, what you’re trying to do with keyword research is identify target search terms (keywords or phrases) that you can focus your pages around that:

  • Are relevant to what the page is about
  • Get relatively high traffic
  • Against relatively low competition

The impact of doing this basic step – against not doing it – can be massive! Many web pages would get 10x, 100x the traffic – or more! – if they did this.

If you have your own website that supports your business, or if you make websites for other people, and you don’t already do keyword research, you are missing out on something big!

If I’m not mistaken the recent elimination of SEOTC and SEOUC metrics from Market Samurai has removed the capability to assess the competition for keywords. This surely is a major blow for those doing keyword research. It would be great if you could comment on this recent change to Market Samurai as well as providing alternative sources for assessing competition for keywords.

Hi Ben…a couple of things: Looks like Market Samurai has come ahead ‘leaps and bounds’ with their most recent updates. In particular, their 10 x speed increase is a real plus. And their SEO Blueprint (just finished watching the video) is excellent.

They’ve also got Page Rank analysis back into the system as well. So, all in all, a great improvement.

Secondly, since I never seem to get any response from WordTracker about this, I will ask you (on the off-chance you may know something)…

Ben, I find it so frustrating using WordTracker Link-Builder and Strategizer when I can’t justify taking advantage of their primary product – Wordtracker Keyword Tool.

Why? Because it’s only good for keyword research in the UK and the US. I live in New Zealand. It’s absolutely of no assistance to me at all – unless I happen to be doing UK and/US keyword-specific research work (which is ‘next to never’).

Is it just me? Or does much of the SEO world feel the same way about WordTracker’s geographic limitations? Any ideas as to whether or not they may make it a globally valuable tool one day?

    Cheers

Thanks for the considered post Bruce. I’ll have to update Market Samurai and check it out again.

(I actually have a totally new KWR process that now uses data from SEOmoz. Here’s the video.)
