GuruShot – Scratchmedia’s Latest Web2.0 Application Design Project

I'm really excited to tell you about a new site we've been working on recently, in collaboration with a partner here in the UK.

Our partner is an amazing guy called Ben Hewitt, who used to work in the world of finance in the City of London and quit to pursue a life that would really reward him.

He spent time studying in India and now helps individuals and companies achieve amazing results through personal and business coaching.

I met Ben about a year ago on a seminar. We immediately got chatting about our ideas for the web, and how it can be used to help people help themselves. And that’s how GuruShot was born.

GuruShot.com is basically a Web2.0 application for sharing the world’s wisdom.

The world is full of amazing quotes that can really give you just the inspiration you need at any moment. But they tend to be found in books and long lists.

GuruShot.com aims to deliver the best wisdom the world has to offer to anyone just when they need it.

You can go on to GuruShot and type in a word or two into the simple text field. Then GuruShot will try to give you a wisdom quotation that matches what you’re looking for.

So if you want inspiration about peace, family, marketing, or intimacy – just type it in and see what you get.

GuruShot is also a smart system. You can teach it what works and what doesn’t. If the quote you get back inspires you, or if it doesn’t inspire you, you can just click a button. GuruShot will then learn what quotes best match each subject, so that it can help people better in the future.

Of course, you can also add your own favourite quotes. You just need to sign up, confirm your email, and start sharing. You’ll get no spam – just an optional daily quote.

Please test GuruShot out today. I’d love to hear what you think.

And don’t forget to tell any friends you think may like it!

Best,
Ben

ah, if you submit the same subject over and over again it seems to give you random quotes, unrelated to the subject.
so, is it better to say it is a random quote generator ?

      Hi Pete,

      Thanks for your comment.
The idea of the site is that it learns over time to relate searches with relevant quotes. It’s still early days so although it may seem that the quotes are random now, it won’t be like that for long.

This is a great idea to put on the web. Almost everyone has access to the internet today so its a great tool to host quotations that will inspire people. The fact that you can teach it what works and what doesn’t just adds to its success.

I personally feel this would be a great tool to have for not only a personal matter but for a designer too. It can sometimes be hard to find inspiration for designs, especially if the day hasn’t gone as planned. So getting an interesting quotation can not only inspire people but trigger ideas to immerse from key words in the relevant quotes.

As a designer myself I personally use a thesaurus to try and expand on my initial ideas. So getting inspiration from a quote should provoke a little more in-depth thought and hopefully trigger that all important creativity you are searching for.

Random quotes generator, whats a big deal?

Should put more thought into back-end if you are about to call “a form that posts and grabs info from DB” a Web 2.0 app… and Heroku isn’t exactly known for performance either… obviously you are not using caching (at least it might have returned same results to same words to everyone and alleviate some performance issues you are having there).

Design right after the actual quote is garbage – left justification, right justified, centered lines… and one I can’t even tell why it start where it starts and ends… all over place, messy.. get rid of it…

Hype… thats all your article really passes across as the product is an attempt to reinvent a wheel… I can just as easily type in Google “creativity wisdom quote” and get better results I can actually read more than once sentence on it and get some real advice. I am not impressed.

Yes. It was online for a couple of years, and the project recently ended due to lack of funding and development.
